Admission Procedures

Admission to Richard Winn Academy is competitive, based on a student’s previous school records, test scores and personal qualifications, including an interview.

General Guidelines for Admissions

  • A child should be four (4) years old before September 1 to enter four-year kindergarten and six (6) years old before September 1 to enter grade one.
  • All students are required to have up-to-date South Caroline Immunization Certificates before entering.
  • All applicants entering grades 1 – 8 are required to take an entrance test. Students entering grades 9 and above will be evaluated in part by transcripts and report cards.
  • An interview with the applicant and the family may be required.
  • Student assignment is the responsibility of the Head of School.
  • A genuine agreement on the part of the student to comply with the rules and regulations, particularly regarding dress and conduct, is necessary.
  • Applications will be taken on a first come-first served basis, after school families have had time to register.
  • For classes with waiting pools, the Head of School has the right to admit the most qualified student, regardless of his/her place in the pool when an opening occurs.
  • Registration fees hold a student’s place if he/she is promoted.  If a student fails a grade, the school is not obligated to take that student back.  The registration fee may not be refunded if a student is not promoted.
  • Transfer students will be accepted at the discretion and evaluation of the Head of School.  Transfer students will pay the application fee for admission.  After acceptance, one month’s tuition will be paid.
  • Upon entering the school, the student, parents, and the school will have 30 days to terminate the contract.  After 30 days, the contract is binding.
  • The Head of School must wait a minimum of three working days after the information is received to make admissions decisions.  The Head of School will determine the information required.  It will include, but is not limited to, prior school transcripts and test scores.
